X-Employee the X-Factor

1.1     Scene 1

       Govind was struggling on a piece of code, he wanted to fix the issue asap and leave for day, his brain was not moving that fast as that of his heart beat, suddenly he remembered  his X-colleague James , who faced a similar issue sometime back and found a workaround to resolve it.  Govind quickly jumped into the company directory and searched for his contact, oops.. it doesn’t list the X- Employees.  Somehow  Managed to get his phone number, quickly  called him  and rest you could guess it . Yes James helped to fix the code.
1.2     Scene 2

     We were in the cafeteria of the prospective customer.  Meeting in another 1 hr and this being the first meeting with them we did not have clue of their internals. Felt a  pat on my shoulder, turned and  surprised to  see my X-colleague. We both worked together for more than  2 years and share a great understanding. After Nostalgic moments. He happened to be the Sponsor of the project for which we are bidding. Then what?  it was cake walk to progress further.
1.3     X- Employee, The X-Factor

 Often organization forgets to tap the x-employees influence. If this area is tapped by right collaboration initiative mutual benefit is assured.  Let’s look at some of the benefits

1.     Recruiting ; After exhausting internal pool, look at x-employees pool, some might be eager to return back. Adopting to your culture would be never an issue. Have an Extended Employee referral Program, your candidate bank never dries.

2.     Training :  Every one moves out with Career Prospects  as objective, definitely they would have acquired new skills/competencies.  Call them get your folks get trained in those areas.  May be cost effective 

3.     New Opportunities : Regular touch with x-Employees, may expose new business opportunities  

4.     Feedback : who gives honest feedback on exit ?   Call them after they are relieved to hear the  honest feedback for process improvement.

5.     Career Plans : compare the career plan that you had for him/her and what he/she is now,  that should tell gap tales  in the process.

6.     Testimonial  : Get it from them, speaks volumes for new aspirants, vendors, customers. Easy Brand Boosting mechanism.
